Sven Seuken is a tenured Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics of the University of Zurich and head of the Computation and Economics Research Group. He is also Associated Faculty at the ETH AI Center. His research lies at the intersection of computer science (specifically AI) and game theory, with a focus on market design.
He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Harvard University under the guidance of David C. Parkes. Since joining the University of Zurich in 2011 he has received several awards and research grants, including a Google Faculty Research Award and an ERC Starting Grant. In 2017, he was ranked as one of the "Top 40 under 40" in the category "society and science" by the German business magazine Capital.
He is also interested in practical applications of market design: he is the founder and CEO of Market Design Consulting GmbH, a consultancy that provides market design advice to a variety of companies. Furthermore, he currently serves as the Head of Economics and Chief Economist for Worldcoin.
In 2018, he has been elected as a liaison professor ("Vertrauensdozent") for the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Germany's largest, oldest and most prestigious scholarship foundation). In this role, he mentors approximately 20 scholarship holders studying at ETH Zurich and the University of Zurich.
In 2022, together with Ilya Segal from Stanford University, he is serving as the Co-Program Chair for the 23rd ACM Conference on Economics and Computation (EC'22), the premier conference for work at the intersection of economics and computer science.
We mainly publish in the proceedings of the top AI conferences (8 IJCAI and 9 AAAI papers), top conference at the intersection of Economics and Computation/Algorithmic Game Theory (8 EC papers), and top journals including JET, JAIR, and Management Science.
