Short bio

I defended my PhD Thesis in January 2012 and I'm now working as a PostDoc in the Software Evolution and Architecture Lab (s.e.a.l) in the Department of Informatics at the University of Zurich. I received my MSc degree in computer science from the University of Zurich in 2006. Thesis: Evolving Code Clones. A long time ago before my research career started I graduated from Literargymnasium Rämibühl in 2001.

Research Interests

  • Programming
  • Empirical Software Engineering
  • Software Design & Architecture
  • Software Evolution & Maintenance
  • Statistics and Data analysis

When developing and later on when maintaining and evolving a software system a huge amount of data is generated, for instance, due to the use of source control systems, issue tracking systems, or project managment tools. When remaining untouched such data is just a large, unstructured, and uninteresting side product. However, we can analyze this data and it will turn into valuable and essential information and knowledge regarding the software development process. My research focuses on using such knowledge (from the past) to develop techniques, models, and tools that support software development efforts and help to optimally planning and allocating the often limited development resources. Therefore, my research activities contribute to the very active and promising sub-fields Mining Software Repositories (MSR) and Empirical Software Engineering within the Software Engineering Research Community.
