Summary

Mark C. Ballandies has a background in high-performance computing and holds a PhD in cryptoeconomics from ETH Zurich, titled “Fundamentals of Cryptoeconomics: On the design, construction, and impact of blockchain-based systems and incentives.”

His research focuses on the design of blockchain-based cryptoeconomic incentives and their impact on human behavior using experimental, network science, data science, and agent-based modeling methodologies. His current research interest is in decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) and how to enable them to adapt efficiently to changing conditions.

Research interests

Mark is interested in exploring decentralized, community-owned solutions to complex challenges, actively pursuing this with WiHi, a decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) that uses web3 to enhance weather and climate intelligence. He also co-founded onocoy, a DePIN for the GNSS industry, and DAOSuisse, an association for DAOs in Switzerland. He is a lecturer at Vorarlberg University of Applied Sciences, an alumnus of the Foundation of German Business, and president of education matters e.V.
