I grew up in Carinthia (Kärnten), Austria, a place with high mountains and more than 1.200 crystal-clear blue lakes of drinking water quality.
Zurich, my home since 2004, is quite similar to Carinthia with its nature, the lake and so many green areas.
However, my favorite city in Europe is Vienna with its breathtaking architecture, the Viennese waltz, and its food and coffee culture. I lived there for almost 18 years.
In my many visits to Seattle, WA, I got attracted to Puget Sound region and the Pacific Northwest, but mostly in summer.
I love running, biking, and skiing. The more the better, but at least regularly. You may find me on Strava.
And I like to race in Marathons and Half-Marathons: Vienna, Frankfurt, Zurich, Greifensee, Hallwiler See.
I spice up my everyday running with some marathon training camps such as the Runner's World Camp or the Opel Running Camp, typically in Monte Gordo, Portugal, a great place for runners.
When I was more into biking (admittedly some years ago), I raced a few times in the Dreiländerradgiro (Österreich, Italien, Schweiz), not with the greatest of success but as a happy finisher.
And as many runners in Zurich, I like to participate in the Relay Running: Zürich SOLA Stafette. Actually I founded the ifi runners, the team of the Department of Informatics at UZH, that competes every year in the SOLA.
My favorite resorts for skiing, hiking, and biking are:
