SPINS is a research group interested in the Security and Privacy of Information Networks and Systems. We are based at the Department of Informatics, IfI, of the University of Zurich, UZH.
Over the past few years, our research has delved into areas such as IoT/CPS Security and Privacy, Hardware-Assisted Security, Web Security, Software Security, Applied Cryptography, and Network Security.
Our group is generally interested in the intersection of cybersecurity with various areas in computer science, engineering, and more. In our research, we typically strive for a systematic treatment of cybersecurity avoiding ad-hoc, best-effort, or poorly understood tools/obscure approaches and mechanisms.
The SPINS group (formerly known as CHAOS-Sec) was founded in 2021, at RIT, USA, and moved to UZH in February 2025.
