Dr. Anton Fedosov, a postdoctoral researcher at the People and Computing Lab at IFI, co-organized together with Aurelia Tamò-Larrieux (Maastricht University, The Netherlands), Christoph Lutz (BI Norwegian Business School, Norway), Eduard Fosch-Villaronga (Leiden University, The Netherlands), and Anto Čartolovni (Catholic University of Croatia, Croatia) the GoodBrother International Conference on Privacy-friendly and Trustworthy Technology for Society on June 28, 2022 in Zagreb, Croatia.
The conference aimed to advance the knowledge on critical ethical concepts such as privacy, trust, and transparency of digital technologies, contributing particularly by extending emerging concepts and themes such as privacy-by-design, overtrust, transparency-by-design, and personalized transparency. The organizers invited 16 presenters to discuss their interdisciplinary approaches spanning the social sciences, legal scholarship, ethics, and research in computing and engineering.
The extended abstracts presented can be found on the conference website and the recordings of the keynote speakers, Prof. Dr. Esther Keymolen (Tilburg University, The Netherlands) and Associate Prof. Dr. Jaap-Henk Hoepman (Radboud University, The Netherlands), as well as the sessions Technology Meets (Privacy) Law, Ethics, and Society; Privacy and Trust Perceptions; and Social Issues and Contextualized Questions can be found on the YouTube channel of the Catholic University of Croatia.
The conference is linked with a special issue co-edited by the organizers in the Springer’s journal Digital Society on the conference theme. Articles to that special issue can be submitted until the end of October 2022.
The COST Action 19121 GoodBrother "Network on Privacy-Aware Audio- and Video-Based Applications for Active and Assisted Living” is is a European Cooperation in Science & Technology network started in 2020. The aim of GoodBrother is to increase the awareness on the ethical, legal, and privacy issues associated to audio- and video-based monitoring and to propose privacy-aware working solutions for assisted living, by creating an interdisciplinary community of researchers and industrial partners from different fields (computing, engineering, healthcare, law, sociology) and other stakeholders (users, policy makers, public services), stimulating new research and innovation.
