A special mention at the leading Software Engineering Conference MSR 2019 goes to Christoph Gote and Ingo Scholtes, professor at the Department of Informatics, for their work «git2net: Mining Time-Stamped Co-Editing Networks from Large git Repositories».
Reconstructing information on developer collaborations in software projects is a challenging task. The new software «git2net» provides a new approach to automatically extract collaboration networks at high temporal resolution. It can be directly applied to millions of software projects publicly available at platforms like gitHub.com. The resulting collaboration networks open new perspectives for research in data science, network analysis, computational social science and empirical software engineering.
