Seminar: Digital Platforms (Bachelor / Master)

Description

The sharing economy and online platforms are on the rise and constantly changing our daily lives. More and more products and services can be booked online via digital platforms. What types of digital platforms and ecosystems exist? What are their design principles and rationales? How are they governed? How do companies create value by building up and engaging in digital ecosystems?

The seminar materials will consist of current and seminal research papers in the field and represent various aspects of digital platforms and ecosystems, such as technical, organizational, and business.

Prior knowledge in information systems is recommended.

This module is planned to take place in person. Materials and recordings are made available online via MS Teams. This seminar is limited to 20 participants.

Digital platforms: theory

HeineEtAL2020

 (Hein et al., 2020) focus on four ‘avenues’ to analyse Digital Platforms (Technical properties and value creation, Value capture in digital platform ecosystems, Complementor interaction with the ecosystem, Make-or-join decision in digital platform ecosystems) in the table above we can see research questions for each of the described ‘avenues’.
