Adherence to Treatments with the Digital Companion

Description

The goal of the Digital Companion project is to explore how digital health can support patients with chronic diseases in adhering to their treatment plan, as well as physicians in transitioning to a closed-loop obesity treatment using conversational AI. We aim to develop an integrated system that helps patients and physicians collaboratively create a treatment plan, supports the patient in adhering to that plan between consultations, and feeds back patient data into the next consultation for the physician’s reference. The system also includes an LLM-based chatbot that assists patients by providing guidance, reminders, and persuasion. The project enters its final phase with a comprehensive evaluation.

The system developed in the project has functionalities like reminding patients of diet and exercise arrangements, providing knowledge about relevant conditions, and integrating Fitbit tracking data to the app and journal for patients to review each day's performance. We are looking for motivated students to investigate the effectiveness and potential of the developed digital artifacts based on the data collected from the evaluation. In this thesis, you will research to what extent the patients have adhered to the treatment plan and the effectiveness of the developed system. Students are required to be fluent in (Swiss-) German, as the evaluation includes interaction with doctors and patients in Switzerland.
