In this ongoing project, we explore how the use of large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT in online forums or safe spaces for women affected by abuse or other trauma influences the reception and dynamics of these safe spaces.
Motivation: The integration of LLMs such as ChatGPT in online forums has the potential to offer immediate support and information to women affected by abuse or trauma. By examining how these technologies are received and how they impact the dynamics of safe spaces, we aim to enhance their design and usage to better support affected individuals for future technology.
Problem: Online forums and safe spaces for women affected by abuse or trauma are delicate environments where trust and safety are paramount. While LLMs can provide valuable support, their impact on the reception and safety within these spaces needs thorough investigation to ensure they contribute positively without compromising the safe environment.
Goal: Conduct a comprehensive literature review on the impact of LLMs like ChatGPT in online forums and safe spaces, and create and conduct an online survey to explore these issues. For additional credits, students may also participate in initial interviews (6-8) alongside the Principal Investigator (PI).
Approach: This project involves:
Eligibility: Open to students who have previously taken HCI. Prefereably this project is done over the Summer break, it is however open to discussion.
Credits: This independent study can be undertaken for 3-9 ECTS, depending on the level of involvement.
