Congratulations! Davide Scaramuzza and his team have been awarded the Jury Award at the Cybathlon 2024.
The Robotics and Perception Group at UZH, created in cooperation with Zurich University of Applied Sciences and ETH Zurich the Sight Guide’s assistance system. The team demonstrated at the Olympics for assistive tech, that cameras that control autonomous flying robots can also help blind people in many ways: To pour water into a glass, to avoid various obstacles on a sidewalk or to sort items of clothing by color. The Sight Guide’s assistance system consisted among other things of RGB cameras, a depth camera for localization and 3D mapping and a belt for haptic semantics.
The Cybathlon of ETH Zurich provides a platform for competitions and events to challenge teams globally to develop assistive technologies with and for people with disabilities.
The Sight Guide’s assistance system received the Jury Award for the most innovative and user-friendly solution.
